MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. (March 8, 2018) — Medical Simulation International (MSI), a Minnesota based non-profit organization will be presenting at the 2018 Global Health & Innovation Conference at Yale University in New Haven Connecticut on April 14-15, 2018. The conference is put on by Unite For Sight.
The Global Health & Innovation Conference (#GHIC) is the world’s leading and largest global health conference as well as the largest social entrepreneurship conference, with 2,200 professionals and students from all 50 states and more than 55 countries. This must-attend, thought-leading conference convenes leaders, changemakers, and participants from all sectors of global health, international development, and social entrepreneurship.
MSI’s Simulation Trainer, which is in an “early implementation” stage, will be presented as part of the conference’s Social Impact Labs lecture set. The pitch, “Interactive Video-Based Obstetric Fistula Trainer – An Innovative Solution for Improving Surgical Education in Low- and Middle-Income Countries” will be one of many presentations featuring the organization’s 5-minute pitch and a 15-minute panel discussion session.
[The] discussion and coaching [includes] two expert speakers, questions, answers, and feedback from the audience. The conference audience has the opportunity to hear about cutting-edge ideas from the pitch presenters, while also learning from the guidance, advice, and expertise of the expert panelists. Each Social Impact Lab consists of two expert panelists and four social impact pitch presenters.
MSI was created with the vision of expanding the skills and capabilities of medical professionals in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Many of the conditions are challenging and medically complex to treat. As such, advanced training methods are needed to implement standards of treatment.
Simulation Training is an essential component of MSI’s educational model as it engages trainees in a safe and isolated environment. This type of engaging training, which can be run from a personal computer, allows trainees to rehearse the steps of a procedure before performing on a patient, reducing the risk and potential for serious error.
MSI’s interactive simulation technology focuses on conditions commonly faced by patients in developing countries. While routine in developed countries, simulation technology has yet to be widely utilized in the developing world.
The pitch will be presented by Priyanka Gupta, an Assistant Professor of Urology at University of Michigan and Project Manager at Medical Simulation International.
